After her performances at the National Brittany Specialty Show in Fort Smith, AR, and her National Gun Dog Championship and runner up in the National Amateur All Age Championship, our NGDCH AmFC GFC DC GCH Turning Points Shenanigans (Shandi) has been honored with the W. E. Stevenson Sr. Memorial National Dual Dog award. “We are so honored to have Shandi earn this award,” said owner Julie Nelson. “We are dedicated to the duality of the breed so this means as much as any award our dogs can earn. We thank Wayne and Barbara Pepin for being such gracious competitors, we seem to be trading this award back and forth and know how much it means to them, too.”
The American Brittany Club has been “dual dogging it” from the very beginning. The first combined show and trial in 1943 offered a Handcrafted Baked Bean Service for the Best Looking (Dual purpose) dog in trial. An ad claimed Aotrou MacEochaidh was the winner. He was 1st in the All-Age and first in the Novice class at the show, having not yet won either of the titles that he subsequently acquired. There is a long line of historical winners of this award.
